How Much Does Hybrid Flooring Cost in Perth? (2026 Guide)
Planning a renovation? We break down the cost of hybrid flooring in Perth, including material prices, installation fees, and subfloor preparation costs.
Hybrid flooring has rapidly become one of the most popular flooring choices in Perth. Thanks to its 100% waterproof core, incredible durability, and realistic timber look, it’s the perfect solution for busy Australian homes.
But if you are planning a renovation or building a new home, the biggest question on your mind is likely: How much is this going to cost?
In this guide, we break down the costs associated with buying and installing hybrid flooring in Perth in 2026, so you can budget accurately for your project.
1. The Cost of the Hybrid Flooring (Materials Only) #
The price of hybrid flooring planks varies depending on the brand, the thickness of the plank, the thickness of the wear layer, and the quality of the acoustic underlay attached to the back.
On average, you can expect to pay:
- Budget / Entry-Level Hybrid: $35 to $45 per square metre.
- Mid-Range / Standard Hybrid: $45 to $60 per square metre.
- Premium / High-End Hybrid: $60 to $85+ per square metre.
What makes a premium hybrid plank more expensive? Premium planks usually feature a thicker overall profile (e.g., 7mm to 9mm compared to a budget 5mm plank), a thicker commercial-grade wear layer (0.5mm or higher), deeper and more realistic embossing that matches the printed wood grain, and a higher-quality acoustic underlay.
2. The Cost of Installation #
If you are reasonably handy, hybrid flooring is one of the easiest floors to install yourself thanks to its click-lock system. Going the DIY route means your installation cost is essentially zero (aside from a few basic tools).
However, if you prefer to hire a professional flooring installer in Perth, you can expect to pay:
- Standard Installation: $25 to $35 per square metre.
This rate typically covers the laying of the planks in standard rooms. Keep in mind that stairs, complex layouts, or installing around intricate cabinetry may incur additional labor charges.
3. Subfloor Preparation (The Hidden Cost) #
This is the area that catches many renovators by surprise. Hybrid flooring is rigid. It must be laid on a perfectly flat and level subfloor. If your concrete slab has dips, bumps, or waves, the click-lock joints of the hybrid planks will flex when walked on and eventually snap.
Before installation, your installer will check your subfloor. The industry standard usually requires the floor to be level within 2mm to 3mm over a 3-metre radius.
If your floor is uneven, you will need floor levelling.
- Floor Levelling Costs: Depending on how bad the slab is, floor levelling (using a self-levelling compound or grinding down high spots) typically costs between $15 and $45 per square metre.
4. Skirting Boards and Scotia #
When a floating floor is installed, an expansion gap of about 5mm to 10mm must be left around the perimeter of the room to allow the floor to expand and contract with temperature changes. This gap needs to be covered.
You have two options:
- Scotia (Beading): A small piece of trim that matches the floor, nailed into your existing skirting boards to cover the gap. This is the cheaper option, usually costing around $5 to $10 per linear metre supplied and installed.
- Remove and Reinstall Skirting Boards: The installer removes your existing skirting, lays the floor, and then installs new skirting boards over the top for a cleaner, more premium finish. This typically costs $15 to $25 per linear metre supplied and installed (plus painting costs).
5. Uplift and Removal of Old Flooring #
If you are renovating, your old flooring needs to go.
- Carpet Removal: $5 to $10 per square metre.
- Tile Removal: $30 to $50+ per square metre (this is labor-intensive and usually requires floor grinding afterward to remove the old tile glue).
Total Estimated Cost Example #
Let's look at a typical example for a 50 square metre living and dining area in Perth:
- Mid-Range Hybrid Planks ($50/sqm): $2,500
- Professional Installation ($30/sqm): $1,500
- Minor Floor Levelling ($20/sqm): $1,000
- Scotia Trim (approx 40 linear metres @ $8/lm): $320
- Total Estimated Cost: $5,320
(Note: This excludes the removal of old flooring).
